Paper Planes

Seating for Moroso

‘Paper Planes’ arose from a new fabric design incorporating Swarovski crystal elements. The idea underlying the fabric came from folded graph paper, which brings to mind mathematical and scientific images, in total contrast to the festive, joyful, superficial characteristics associated with crystals. Doshi Levien created a checked pattern using thin black and white lines, each with its own line of crystals. The crystals are integrated with the pattern so as to become almost invisible, disguised by the checked lines, reappearing when the light gleams off them. Having established the fabric design, Doshi Levien’s  approach to designing the chair itself involved creating shapes by folding and forming darts with the paper illustrating the checked fabric. Paper Planes is a cosy, comfortable reading chair that is nonetheless visually light, as if to defy gravity.”

Paper Planes features a steel structure and cold-cured polyurethane foam upholstery. The cover comes in two versions: in a printed Kvadrat remix fabric with Swarovski crystal applications, or in Jacquard. It is available in a version with a higher backrest to ensure total relaxation, as well as a standard version that can be used to form a modular seating system.  Find out more about availability, prices and material options for ‘Paper Planes’ at Moroso
